The subject of the paintings, Reflections and Sleek '31, ©2002 Sally Caswell, is the elegant 1931 Lincoln Model K, Convertible Victoria, (with a glimpse of the 1923 Packard Model 126 Runabout in the background.) A luxurious automobile built to the highest standards of excellence by the Ford Motor Company, the Lincoln was designed to lead the market in luxury vehicles and compete with the Cadillac by General Motors. The Lincoln Motor Company was founded in 1917 by Henry Leland, one of the founders of Cadillac, who had left General Motors to build Liberty Aircraft engines during World War I. Following the war, the company's retooling efforts to manufacture luxury automobiles resulted in financial problems and its acquisition in 1922 by the Ford Motor Company that still produces the Lincoln today. *Information sources: Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia, www.wikipedia.org; Platinum Classic Motorcars, www.Platinumclassics.com

Each of the Antique Automobile 30" x 40" Watercolor Paintings were commissioned by a Corporate collection in Memphis, TN, and took over two-hundred hours to paint, in the traditional watercolor technique of layers of graded washes to create the illusion of the painted metal and chrome surfaces. The original reference photographs for the paintings are copyright 1980 Sally Caswell.
